Carmen and I returned to Canada with our hearts set on moving to the exciting city of Vancouver. Little did we know we had a bean on the way. When we found out I was pregnant we decided to take the risk and try to make a life in this new city. It was hard at times- We were both unemployed for five months. We were broken into once and robbed once, we went through some other unexpected events that challenged us in different ways. We found a little Church called Grandview Calvary Baptist in East Vancouver. We came with no expectations and always left filled with so much peace and hope for our uncertain future.
Sometimes I think life is totally random, that God sees it all at an arms length. Other times I am kind of freaked out by how perfectly things seem to come together when we try to do what's best.
I was concerned as my belly grew bigger and still no job was in sight. Could I get hired for a job when I was visibly pregnant and they knew I would be "kind of busy" in just a few months?
Finally in August I found the perfect position at Burnaby Hospital, working in Postpartum Care at a casual position that offered full time hours for about the first 6 weeks- right when I needed it!
After day after day after day of searching and applying for all kinds of jobs, Carmen officially got hired on in the area of his training (Geotechnical Engineering) at a time when things were pretty slow in the industry. At that point we would have been happy if he was hired to work at a Gas Station...so we were taken aback, so thankful, so so thankful! (How do you even describe the feeling?). So much stress was lifted that day; the day he got the call, in early September.
So we celebrated our first anniversary (September 6th) with so much thankfulness; we celebrated a whole first year of marriage just being together; we celebrated the upcoming year that would involve advancement in our careers and the upcoming birth of our Baby.
