It turns out I was not pushing out a baby Wednesday December 30th at 1 pm. I was holding him in my arms, though.
Our son was born on December 29th at 2:30 in the morning. 3 hours before he was born, while I felt some very mild contractions, Carmen and I layed on our bed chatted about what kinds of things we could promise in terms of "long-term commitment" to the Orphanage.
We made a list of a bunch of different areas we wanted to contribute: including networking, fundraising; keeping up our friendship with Depak in Nepal; seeking out child sponsors, and making arrangements to return to Nepal to check in.
We had nice little list going. We turned out the lights to go to sleep and I had a very strong contraction, with a loud "pop". Carmen sat up and was like "What was that?" I stood up and my water was broken. I went into hard labour from then on and about 2 hours later we had a kid!
Amazing amazing and even more amazing. There are just no words. The most intense and beautiful moment of our lives: our vows of marriage and this.
With our mother and fatherly instincts all bursting at the seams, We spoke to Dale on the phone from the Hospital to talk about what kind of things would be required of us in the future of this Orphanage. The main thing was that we were making a plan to raise awareness; fund raise; and to help make sure that somehow $800 makes it to the Orphanage every month to support the ongoing needs of 10 small children.
What a day. In one day we birthed a baby and made a promise to support 10 other little ones on the other side of the world.
I gotta tell you...that whole timing thing again...
