Wow, the time goes fast. Carmen and I are complaining about cold...this business of hovering around 20 degrees Celsius is not what we have been used to! We have spent the majority of the last few weeks in Kathmandu, gearing up for what is going to (finally!) begin early tomorrow morning. We are going to head over to Chitwan to begin our Volunteer placement. We have taken a few language classes and are now barely capable of saying hello, how are you. Oh and I know the word for Grandpa.
The week we spent away from Kathmandu was mostly in the town of Bandipur, where we walked into, decided we loved it, met a lady who said "come help us start an orphanage." We looked at each other and said OK. so now we are thinking about what that all means.
Yesterday we experienced first hand the woes of living in a communist country plagued by violence and political instabilities...boy we have a lot to be thankful for! There were no cars driving through the city and all the shops were closed because communist protesters were vandalizing things, ripping down signs, lighting things on fire and starting knife fights in the street. People just live around this violence because things like this "just happen." We are so blessed in Canada!!!!
Speaking of Blessed--I just am finishing a book called "The End of Poverty" by Jeff Sachs and I highly recommend it. It is blowing me away how little it takes to make such a big difference in this world. It is so ridiculously easy to change/save/improve lives all over the world...people so badly need help. Carmen and I are learning SO much these days...
Anyways, now that the communist protesters are no longer throwing rocks in the streets, we are off to Chitwan so I can disinfect wounds and Carmen can build some toilets. yaaa hooo!
Love Marcie and Carmen

Yahoooo - have a fun and safe journey to Chitwan!
Good to read of more of your travels and seeing some of your pics on facebook. What a wonderful difference you will make to those to whom the Lord has called you to minister! While people back home are busy decorating and preparing for all kinds of Christmas celebrations, you are sharing your lives with so many who have nothing. You've chosen the better thing to do!
We thank God that we know He has you in His care. Be blessed! Be encouraged! There may be times when you may wonder about how you are going to take the next step. May your faith grow in leaps and bounds as you continue to trust the Lord's leading.
Sorry for chatting so long --- I'll stop now and talk to the Lord about you.
Greetings and love,
Peter and Karin

Just thinking of you now and wondering how you will be celebrating Christ's birth in a foreign land so far away from family and loved ones.
